Abstract
This study analyzes the type and characteristics of the establishment of a multi-pillar old-age income security system for individuals over the past 11 years. In particular, it tries to examine whether the multi-pillar system is effective in response to the social demand of gender equality. To this end, a Group-based Multi-trajectory Analysis was conducted using the secondary data from the Korea Welfare Panel of 2nd wave to 12th wave. The results are as follows. Firstly, there are 6 heterogeneous types of the individual establishment of a multi-pillar old-age income security system and only about 10 percent of the individuals who established a public and private pension system in a stable manner. Secondly, although the establishment of a multi-pillar old-age income security system for men and women appears to be similar, there are significant qualitative differences in stable and long-term deployments. Thirdly, males, 30s, highly educated, with spouses, standard workers, and the higher group of the disposable income have the higher possibility to have multi-pillar old-age income security. Based on these results, this study proposes the necessity of strengthening the public pension system and increase publicity of retirement benefits in order to realize the multi-pillar old-age income security system.
